Just when I feared that I was through with those delicious school days, that I was bound for a real job and grown-uphood. That my future held mortgage payments and control-top pantyhose . . . Just when the threat of this blasted maturity pressed (my mother’s smug smirk and admonitions of “I told you so” ringing through my ears), life took a twist and became interesting once more.
